PPC Doubles League

Registration now open for the PPC Doubles League - Season Three 2025

This is our exclusive ranked ladder system, where each week you will be placed in a group of similar ranked players and then partner with everyone in your group, with each game first to 15 points.

[Note: You do NOT choose a partner – please sign up individually]

Entry fee: $40

Max entrants: 40 players

Start time: Wednesdays 6:45pm check-in, 7pm start

Location: Broadfield Reserve (562 Robinsons Rd, Rolleston)

Duration: 8 weeks starting Wed 16th July 2025 (may extend longer than 8 weeks total, if there are postponements due to weather)

How it Works Each Week:

1.       Weekly Group Play: Every week, based on who's available, we'll form groups of 4 or 5 players. These groups are designed to give you competitive matches with players of similar skill levels. Within your group, you'll play one game with every partner (rotating doubles format).

2.       Your Ladder Movement: At the end of each week, your performance in your group directly impacts your position on the overall ladder. Players who perform well will see their rank improve, moving up the ladder. Those who don't perform as well will move down.

3.       Absent Players: If you can't make it one week (or more), don't worry – there’s no need to find a replacement! Your current standing on the ladder won't change due to your absence. However, other players who do play might move above or below you based on their results, so your relative position on the ladder might shift.

4.       DUPR: League results will be entered on DUPR, if you haven’t signed up to DUPR yet, please do so here: https://dashboard.dupr.com/signup.

PPC SEASON 3 LEAGUE RULES

    1. Ladder Ranking System

This league uses a weekly reset ranking system to determine player positions on the ladder. Each week, your performance directly influences your new rank.

★ Initial week starting positions will be determined by current DUPR rank (or organiser’s discretion if not available)
★ The ladder league is not gendered – all players compete on the same ladder.

    2. Group Formation

★ Groups are formed each week from the players who are present.

★ Players are ordered chronologically based on their current ladder rank.

★ Groups of 4 are maximised from the top of the ladder down. Groups of 5 are only used for the lowest-tiered groups if necessary to accommodate all players.

    3. Gameplay

Within your group, each player will play a round-robin where they partner with every other player once. If you're in a group of 4, you'll play 3 games. If you're in a group of 5, you'll play 4 games.

★ All games are played to 15, win by 2. Switch sides after the first team gets to 8.

★ Your final placing within the group (1st, 2nd, etc.) is based on the total number of games you win.

★ If there is a tie in total wins, the tie is broken by the points differential (total points for, minus total points against).

★ If there is still a tie, then the players will share the same finishing position.

    4. Weekly Score Calculation

Your new rank is determined by a weekly total score, calculated as follows:

Base Score: At the start of each week, you are assigned a new Base Score based on your current rank. The formula is 41 - current_rank (e.g. Rank 1 = 40 points, Rank 2 = 39 points … Rank 40 = 1 point).

Bonus Points: For players who participate, bonus points are awarded based on their finishing position within their group:

    ★ Group of 5: 1st: +3, 2nd: +1, 3rd: 0, 4th: -1, 5th: -3
    ★ Group of 4: 1st: +3, 2nd: +1, 3rd: -1, 4th: -3
★ If there are any ties, bonus points will be added together & shared equally (e.g. 1st equal between two players will share 4 bonus points total = 2 bonus points each)

Total Score: Your total score for the week is Base Score + Bonus Points.

    5. Ladder Rank

At the end of each week, the entire ladder is re-sorted based on the new total scores, and the updated ladder with each player's movement is published. If players have the same Total Score at the end of the week, the tie is broken as follows:

Same Group: If the tied players were in the same group, their in-group finishing order determines their rank.
    Different Groups:
If the tied players were in different groups, the player from the lower-tiered group will generally jump ahead of the player from the higher-tiered group (unless the tie is with someone who scored 0 points or there was at least one full group between their starting positions, in which case the original group order is retained).
    Ties with Absent Players:
A participating player will always rank above an absent player if they have the same total score.

    6. Absences

Advance Notice: If you provide advance notice of your absence (by midday Tuesday of that week), you will receive 0 bonus points. Your rank may still change if other players move past you.
    No-Show:
If you are a no-show without advance notice (i.e. you do not notify PPC by midday Tuesday), you will receive a -1 bonus point penalty.

    7. League Duration

The league will run for 8 playing weeks. This means the actual total duration may be longer than 8 calendar weeks if sessions are postponed due to weather (e.g. rain, strong wind) or other unforeseen circumstances.

    8. League Championship

After the final regular season week (Week 7), the top 4 players on the ladder will qualify for the Play-offs in Week 8 (the Championship Round).
★ These 4 players will form a special championship group and play a round-robin format. Their finishing order in this Week 8 championship group will determine the final 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place league champions.
★ All other players will also play in Week 8 in their regularly formed groups to determine their final ladder positions for the season.
